Three Things To Consider When Leasing Aircraft Engine Stands

Posted on: 23 November 2020

Servicing aircraft engines can be challenging, and among other things, you want to ensure you have the right engine stand on hand to hold the machinery while you fix it. Rather than purchasing a stand, though, it's likely easier on your wallet to lease one, and here are three questions to help you decide who to lease it from.

How Varied Is the Selection?

There are many different types of aircraft engines, so it stands to reason that there would a wide variety of engine stands to accommodate the various sizes, weights, and configurations. Therefore, you should lease from a company that offers a good selection of stands so you can get exactly what you need to complete the job.

At the same time, though, you should factor in the kind of aircraft you do the most repairs on. It probably doesn't matter how many types of stands the leasing company offers if you only work on one or two kinds of engines. In this situation, you'll just want to find a company that carries the specific stand you require and ensure they have enough in stock so that you can replace yours if necessary.

How Often Do You Need It?

Engine stand companies operate similarly to car rental companies in that you can lease a stand for exactly as long as you need it. So, if you only need an engine stand for 3 days, there's likely a company who will rent it to you for that short of a term.

The trouble is not all companies offer the same leasing terms. Some do granular rentals where you can get the stand for a single day if that's all you need it for; whereas others may have minimum rental periods of a month, two months, or even 90 days. However, the leasing cost will typically reflect the level of convenience offered by the company.

For example, it may cost $200 per day to lease a stand but only $4,500 to do so for a month. The monthly rental price is less because you're keeping the stand for longer, resulting in less storage and shipping costs for the leasing company who, in turn, shares those savings with you.

Look for a company whose leasing options match your workflow. If you have to choose between price and convenience, it's probably best to go with a company that offers the most flexibility when it comes to rental time periods. It's better to spend a little more and get the stand for the exact times you need than to have to waste money renting it for longer and use valuable space storing the stand when you don't need.

How Fast Is Shipping?

Of course, it does no good to pick a company with favorable rental terms if the lender can't get the stand to you as quickly as you need it. For instance, it may be great that you can rent the stand for one day, but that doesn't really help you if you have to wait a week or two for it to get to your workshop.

Go with a company that has fast turnaround times. Ideally, this would be a company that has multiple locations all over the country. This lets them send out an engine stand from the facility closest to you, which reduces shipping time and saves you money.

Leasing an aircraft engine stand is a great option, particularly if you just don't have the room to store a stand permanently. To learn more about your rental options or to get a stand for your repair project, contact a company that has CFM56.engine stands in stock.
