2 Tips To Keep Your Landscaping Maintained

Posted on: 21 January 2021

If your home is landscaped, this can increase your home's value as well as adding curb appeal. To ensure your landscaping stays looking great, you have to make sure you keep it properly maintained. Below are two tips on how you can do this.

Weed Control

Weeds can easily take over flower beds in your yard as well as other areas. This will result in your landscaping look very messy. It is important that you stay on top of weeds as they can get out of control very quickly.

For your flower beds, install mulch, as this is the easiest way to control weeds. Lay about three inches of mulch and then push it away about three inches from the base of each plant. Mulch works as it will not allow the weeds to get any sun or rain. If you do not push it away from the plants, sun or rain cannot get to them either.

You can also put an edging around your flower garden to prevent grass and weeds from moving in. There are different types of edging you can use. For example, you can use concrete, wood, stone, metal or plastic edging.

Fertilize

You should use fertilizer on your lawn and your flower beds. Start out by taking a soil test so you know the nutrients your soil needs. You can purchase soil test kits at garden stores or hire a professional to do this for you. You do need to take samples from different areas of your yard and put the soil in different containers. Write on each container where you got the sample from.

Once you know what your lawn and flower beds need, purchase fertilizer at a garden store. They can help you choose the right type. You also need to make sure you fertilize at the right time. Your lawn may need to be fertilized in the spring, but this will depend on the type of grass you have. Check the flowers that you have planted to see the fertilizer types they need and when.

Choose a control or slow-release fertilizer as this will last much longer. This is because a slow-release fertilizer releases the fertilizer a small amount at a time so your lawn and flowers will continually be fertilized throughout the growing season.

Hire a landscaping maintenance contractor to help you as they can give you many more tips. You should also consider hiring a lawn mowing service if you do not have time to keep your lawn mowed.
